Avoiding the Top 10 Mistakes
in Business Writing

Poor business writing gives a bad impression to both internal and external audiences, decreases effective communication and can negatively impact your organization’s bottom line.  This course provides you with the tools, techniques, and strategies to avoid the ten most common business writing mistakes found in contemporary professional business writing. 

Participants will learn to:

  • Effectively use commas, semicolons, and colons;
  • Avoid using “all caps” in written communication;
  • Avoid misplaced and dangling modifiers;
  • Avoid using humor and emotion in business writing;
  • Use appropriate levels of familiarity in business writing;
  • Effectively employ subject/verb agreement;
  • Do not end sentences with prepositions;
  • Be cognizant of using written language as opposed to verbal language in business writing;
  • Concentrate on clear, concise structure, avoiding run-on sentences; and
  • Avoid the use of clichés and colloquialism.
